Transition Readiness Program (TRP) provides our transitioning Marines and their families with the resources and tools needed to reach their personal goals and includes a standardized core curriculum.

The Transition Readiness Program encompasses all transition programs, services, and benefits available to active-duty Marines, separating or retiring, and their families. The program provides separating/retiring service members and their families with the skills, tools, and self-confidence necessary to ensure successful re-entry into the civilian world.

 

Initial Counseling (IC) / Pre-Separation (Pre-Sep) Counseling

Initial Counseling (IC) / Pre-Separation (Pre-Sep) Counseling
These individual sessions, provided by the P&PD staff, designed to establish the foundation of the transition process, overview of the Transition Readiness Seminar (TRS) and benefits earned as a result of time in service. These mandatory requirements cannot be waived and must be completed prior to registration/entry to the TRS. Retirees may attend these components up to 24 months prior to EAS but must do so no later than 12 months from EAS. Separatees may complete the components up to 18 months prior to EAS but must do so no later than 12 months from EAS.

** You MUST see your Unit Transition Coordinator or Career Planner prior to Initial Counseling and Pre-Separation Counseling.

Transition Readiness Seminar

TRANSITION READINESS SEMINAR (TRS)
This signature 5-day course is mandatory for active duty members separating or retiring from military service. TRS provides transitioning Marines and their families with the resources and tools needed to reach their personal goals. Topics include VA Benefits, Military Skills Translation; Department of Labor led employment curriculum and, Financial Planning.

** You MUST see your Unit Transition Coordinator or Career Planner to register to attend the TRS and all applicable tracks.

Accessing Higher Education (AHE) Track

ACCESSING HIGHER EDUCATION (AHE) TRACK
Accessing Higher Education Track is a training that can help you access new opportunities, and can be a prerequisite for a number of jobs in the U.S. economy. The course is designed to guide you through the variety of decisions involved in choosing a program, preparing for the college admissions application process, and securing funding. The expected outcome is that you will create a customized plan for a successful transition to a higher education institution.

Boots to Business (B2B) Track

BOOTS TO BUSINESS (B2B) TRACK
A two-day intensive training workshop is coordinated and conducted by Veterans Business Outreach Centers (VBOC) and SBA Veterans Business Development Officers (VBDO). After completing the in-person B2B class, participants can continue their studies online via the B2B Revenue Readiness course offered at no cost to B2B and B2B Reboot participants through partners at Mississippi State University. The online course will allow participants to explore the fundamentals of small business ownership.

Career Exploration and Planning Track (CEPT)

CAREER EXPLORATION AND PLANNING TRACK (CEPT)
This workshop offers a unique opportunity to identify skills, increase awareness of training and credentialing programs, and develop an action plan to achieve career goals. Service members and spouses who attend the two-day Department of Labor (CEPT) workshop will complete personalized career development assessments of occupational interest, aptitudes, and work values. These assessments will present workshop participants with a variety of tailored job recommendations aligned with their interests and aptitudes, some of which are classified as “high demand” or “high growth” occupations.

Personal Readiness Seminar (PRS)

Personal Readiness Seminar (PRS)
Personal Readiness Seminar (PRS) is the first action point in the Marine For Life Cycle (M4LC). PRS is a four-hour classroom presentation that covers two main topics: an overview of the M4LC model, including Personal and Professional Development (P&PD) programs and services; and introductory personal finance topics. Marines arriving at their First Permanent Duty Station (FPDS) shall register for PRS during the mandatory check-in process within 90 days of their arrival.

California Transition Assistance Program (CalTAP)

California Transition Assistance Program (CalTAP)
The California Department of Veterans Affairs’ California Transition Assistance Program(CalTAP) is a seminar for Service Members and Veterans who have decided to reside in California after completing their military service. CalTAP serves to connect Service Members, their spouses, and Veterans with California specific resources to ensure their success in civilian life.

Topics covered include:

  • California employment outlook including private sector and opportunities with the State of California
